Control Movie

Anton Corbin has created a film that perfectly showcases both the music of Joy Division and the short but fruitful life of Ian Curtis. The choice to film in black and white was the right one. It sets the tone perfectly for Ian Curtis' gray and lifeless hometown of Macclesfield in 1973.Corbin as a first time director excels utilizing his visual and technical skills from his previous life as a music video director. Thankfully Control is not just a beautiful looking movie but a perfectly pitched study of the rise and tragic fall of the tortured Ian Curtis. The intensity of the live music performances in the film are as visceral as those of the real band. It is a credit to the actors that they played everything live on screen, it serves to create memorable performances.Sam Riley delivers a towering performance as Curtis. The first time actor is a name to watch. He is surrounded by a great cast but the film is carried on Rileys shoulders. His inner turmoil is conveyed with great humanity and realism. The audience was still and quiet for quite some time after the credits rolled at the screening I attended. There are some very clever and touching uses of the music in the film. Corbin uses the intensity of Curtis' lyrics to help paint a biographical picture of the man. The use of 'Love will tear us apart' in the movie was particularly inspired giving the context of the scene it was played in. I hope you will go see this powerful and moving film to see what I am talking about.

Mash SF

Mash is a Michael Martin and Gabe Morford film which captures fixed geared riders unique approach within San Francisco's demanding descents. It's these descents which create the fearless lines and clever navigation in split second timing, weaving through traffic and pedestrians alike on bikes that are built for the track yet have been tailored for this daily abuse. Along with the riding the filming must be applauded too. It's the techniques and risk taking that gives the viewers an experience that you too are involved in this sprint. From squeezing through the heavy traffic to the once pedestrians morphed into blurred visions.

Bullion Pet Sounds In The Key Of Dee

Bullion is a London based producer whose inspiration for this project comes from two solid albums in the form of Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys and J Dilla's Repertoire. With it's mash up style and samples Bullion manages to mix this with amazing results. The idea behind the project may not be original (Danger Mouse with the Grey Album) but Bullion has created something that rolls over his American counterparts efforts with ease. Surely after this the mainstream beckons?

T.H. White Private Spotlight

T.H. White first and foremost is not to be mistaken for the English novelist . This T.H. White is the guitar playing, programmer and producer who hails from New York and credits include music for Fox Television and HBO's the Sopranos. Private Spotlight is the follow up album to More Than Before.

This album yields songs that have sprinklings of genres that will satisfy a wide variety of music fans. Private Spotlight is definitely fit for the captains table.
